"A Master Builder" review by NCC Associate Professor Lesley Smith

New Century College Associate Professor Lesley Smith has published a review of Jonathan Demme's new film, A Master Builder, in PopMatters.

"In A Master Builder," writes Lesley Smith, "Jonathan Demme marshals time (more than a decade of rehearsal and performance) and talent (Wallace Shawn, André Gregory, and Lisa Joyce). Fans of Shawn and Gregory’s previous collaborations may anticipate a movie filled with talk, while Demme aficionados may anticipate visual invention.

It turns out that their adaptation of Ibsen’s play (1893) is neither filmed performance nor free-flowing movie, yet it harbors the disadvantages of both."

Lesley Smith is also a George Mason University graduate, with an MFA in Creative Writing. Read more about her.
