Fall 2012 PopMatters Internship

Fall 2012 PopMatters Internship

Internship available for aspiring TV and film reviewer at PopMatters. This is an unusual chance to gain experience in writing reviews of popular, current film, television, and internet programming for a well respected, daily cultural studies magazine. You will attend preview movie screenings in the DC area, watch and review TV before it airs, edit other writers' work, and learn to meet deadlines. Your reviews are not plot summaries or blurbs, but cultural analyses designed for smart lay readers. It's a great experience for anyone looking for future employment as a writer and/or editor.

The ideal candidate (undergraduate or graduate) is self-motivated and imaginative, and can write, edit, and revise beyond basic copy-editing. We plan on a commitment of 10-20 hours per week (like any daily publication, this one involves some work on weekends). Assignments will vary, depending on the intern's experience and skills. The internship is unpaid; students will receive concurrent credit for a FAMS course and ENGH459 or ENGH504 (Internships). It begins in September 2012 and lasts through GMU's fall semester.

Please send resume, cover letter, and two writing samples of 500-1000 words each to Cynthia Fuchs, PopMatters Film & TV Reviews Editor, at fuchs@popmatters.com
